About Library-Media Services

 

MISSION

The library- media program provides to students and staff access to all forms of information in various formats and the materials necessary to accomplish the curricula goals of the school system. In addition to resources, students are provided with expert guidance and instruction in finding requisite materials and utilizing information.


GOALS

The goals of the library-media program are:

  • To provide materials in adequate quantity and quality to meet the objectives of the total education program.
  • To provide materials, which help students, develop critical reading, listening, reviewing, writing and thinking skills.
  • To provide materials, which reflect religious, ethnic, political, cultural diversities, and supports character development.
  • To aid students in acquiring skills for accessing information and using this information in all components of the curriculum.
  • To select media professionals who are knowledgeable of the many formats of media and who understand the function of the materials in teaching concepts of the curriculum.
  • To encourage the media staff to plan collaboratively with teachers to ensure the use of media center resources and services that support the curriculum.
  • To operate media centers according to flexible schedules, which will provide the school community accessibility to media staff, facilities, and resources throughout the instructional day.
  • To continually evaluate the materials and services of the media program for the purpose of identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the program.
  • To continually evaluate and revise the media program reflecting current trends and technology.
