Step #1
Do some background research through the Internet. You may find research information or support groups that will provide you with the terminology and insight into your area of concern. It's always good to know how to communicate with others in terms they understand. Step #4 might be a starting point for you.

Step #2
Contact your school's counselor and discuss the situation. Perhaps your concerns can be addressed locally. If they have a teacher for exceptional children at that school, you can setup an appointment and discuss the situation.

Step #3
If you feel your concerns can not be solved at the local level (the assigned school for your child), contact the Department for Exceptional Children here in Savannah.

Step #4
Contact the local Parental Support Group. They do a lot of volunteer work for the local schools - working with other parents and students with special needs. Perhaps they can give you some ideas and/or suggestions. They have a lot of contacts and experience that can help you find the support you are looking for.

Step #5
If you find the assistance you have been looking for, share your findings. Contact the Department for Exceptional Children and the Parent Support Group and let them know what you learned. Perhaps your experience and findings will help to assist other parents with similar concerns.
