Each and every parent request for a transfer will be carefully considered. Before a request can be approved, it must be determined if the school has adequate capacity and if the school has a program with the services in the student's existing IEP. In addition, the specific program within the school must also have available space. Parents will be notified as soon as possible of the decision. If the request is approved, the student is guaranteed a seat at the receiving school until the student completes the grades at that school or graduates. The parent is responsible for transportation to the new school.
To request a transfer to a public school in a different school system, complete the Georgia Public School to Public School Transfer Request form and take or mail the form to that school system’s central office. If that system accepts the student and approves the request, the parent is responsible for transportation to the new school.
Student Eligibility Criteria
· The student’s parents currently reside within Georgia and have been Georgia residents for at least one calendar year; and
· The student spent the prior school year (2008-2009) in attendance at a Georgia public school in grades K-12 and was in attendance on both the October 2008 and March 2009 FTE counts; and
· The student was served under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) written by the school in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations at any point during the 2008-2009 school year.
