Work-based Learning Placements are the capstone of Career Pathways

Work-based learning represents the integration of workplace experiences and career and technical education curriculum. It is used to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will help them connect school experiences to real-life work activities.

Students enrolled in a CTAE program will have the opportunity to partake in a range of cooperative activities that extend beyond the traditional classroom such as job shadowing, service learning, internships, and apprenticeships—all of which provide CTAE students valuable experience in the world of work.

A quality work-based learning program:

  • Provides a planned program of job training and work experience for a student
  • Assists the student in career exploration and selection of a career pathway
  • Teaches job skills that relate to the student's career major
  • Integrates academic and career curricula

Types of Work-based Learning Programs:

  • Youth Apprenticeship
  • Internship
