Approximately 425 new Savannah-Chatham County Public School System teachers will convene at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street, for the annual week-long New Teacher Orientation (NTO) on Monday through Friday, August 20 - 24, 2007.  The record-breaking group will consist of novice and veteran teachers who are new to the school system and will include educators from across the country as well as overseas.

The theme for this year’s orientation, “THRIVE!” encapsulates the district’s comprehensive teacher support program held throughout the year to help new teachers prosper, flourish and succeed.

NTO participants will be trained in standards-based instruction, content-specific curriculum, technology and information specific to the school system.

The New Teacher Orientation is a collaborative effort between SCCPSS’ departments of Academic Affairs and Human Resources who have coordinated with more than 90 vendors/business partners to provide prizes and giveaways for the incoming teachers along with valuable information.

For more information on the New Teacher Orientation, please contact the Office of Professional Learning at 201-5573.  All media wishing to cover the NTO should contact the Office of Communications at 201-5656.
