Angelina Muskin of Robert W. Groves High School was named one of eight finalists for the National History Day (NHD) Richard T. Farrell Teacher of Merit Award for outstanding success for teaching history.
The award is given annually to a teacher who develops and uses creative methods to make history interesting for students.
A force for history education in her community, Ms. Muskin coordinates workshops for other teachers in her district and serves as an ambassador for history education in the state. She affects countless students, parents and teachers through her extraordinary dedication and mentoring.
“Ms. Muskin has an everlasting effect on me. She not only helped me to further develop essential skills such as writing and researching through projects in her class, but also leadership qualities through serving as the National History Day captain,” said former student, Alan Goodno.
At the NHD Ceremony earlier this summer on the campus of the University of Maryland, Ms. Muskin was recognized as being one of the nation’s finalists. She received a commemorative certificate and a collection of outstanding programs from PBS Video featuring award-winning titles.
National History Day, Inc. is a year long educational organization that makes history come alive through educator professional development and active student learning. Through publications and education programs, National History Day trains teachers to move students beyond textbooks and expand their classrooms to include libraries, museums and archives.
To start off the 2007-2008 school year, Ms. Muskin is working on developing a parental involvement component which includes a Testing Survival Guide for students and parents. Her goal is to provide students and parents with the tools, resources and support that they need to help their child achieve student success.
