Read It Loud! Savannah is planning a special event to celebrate its ongoing campaign to emphasize to parents and caregivers the importance and benefits of reading aloud to children.
Read It Loud! Savannah’s Storybook Summer event will be held on Sunday, August 19, at Daffin Park from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. At this family-friendly event, children will be able to experience popular children’s books through activities, crafts and games at community-sponsored “Storybook Stations.” Stage entertainment will feature Read It Loud! Savannah’s official spokesperson Wally Amos, as well as local personalities and performance groups.
The Storybook Summer celebration marks the one-year anniversary of the community-wide literacy initiative. Read It Loud! Savannah, in collaboration with SCCPSS have made many accomplishments including, the successful collaborative PRE-K READING DAY event which sent volunteer readers, primarily Chatham County Youth Commissioners and Chatham County employees, to all pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school system. Each student received a free age-appropriate book and information (from Read It Loud! Savannah) to take home – to emphasize to parents the importance of reading aloud daily to these children during the summer months so they can enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed.
The Storybook Summer event is Free and open to the public. This will be an exciting event for the entire family!
