At the December 2006 Board of Education meeting, Mr. William “Lang” Brannen was welcomed back to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School system (SCCPSS) as principal of Hershel V. Jenkins High School.
Mr. Brannen previously served with the SCCPSS for more than 20 years. He started out as a business education instructor at Jenkins and moved on to assistant principal at Bartow and Bloomingdale Elementary Schools. Two years later, Mr. Brannen took on the top job as principal at Bartlett Middle School. Before re-joining the Savannah-Chatham school district, Mr. Brannen served as principal at South Effingham Middle and High Schools.
Mr. Brannen, a Tattnall County native, received his teaching certification in business education from Armstrong State College in 1986. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, a Masters in Education in School Supervision and Administration and an Education Specialist degree in School Supervision and Administration from Georgia Southern University.
Currently, Mr. Brannen serves as member of several organizations including the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL), the National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of Middle Schools, the Georgia Middle School Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
“I am excited about coming back to Savannah-Chatham, especially the appointment to Jenkins High. It is truly a homecoming!” said Brannen. “I look forward to working with students, parents, faculty and staff.”
In his new role, Mr. Brannen will serve as administrative leader and assume responsibility for all aspects of school programs effective January 8, 2007.
