Ten Beach High School students have been selected to serve as Pages on President’s Day, February 19, 2007 at the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives in Atlanta. Five students; Charise Morris, Joey Scarver, Shannon Smith, Cassandra Tyler and Asia Calhoun will serve as pages for Representative J. Craig Gordon while the remaining five; Amber Alvin, Alexsis Bradshaw, Karlecia Jackson, Kaseem Mabry and Tarron Moore will serve as pages for Senator Regina Thomas.
Students completed an application and/or interest form for acceptance into the program. Selections were based on recommendations by grade-level teachers, academic achievement and the students’ willingness to serve.
Senate Page duties consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material within the Senate Chamber. Each Georgia Senate Page will receive a certificate of duty, a $10.00 honorarium and will have their pictures made with the Lt. Governor and their Senator.
House of Representative Pages will assist their representatives by delivering notes onto the House Floor from constituents, lobbyists and other officials. The Pages will have their pictures taken with the Speaker and/or their representative right before lunch if time permits. Lunch will be provided by the House of Representatives. Each Page will be paid $10.00 for their service and will receive a certificate at the end of the day.
Orientation begins at noon for all selected Pages and session will start at 1:00pm. Pages will serve for one day and will work until the day’s session is over. Each program offers the student a unique opportunity to experience Georgia's Senate and House of Representatives first hand.
