The Hungry Minds Project began in 2007 to encourage students at Scott Alternative Learning Center to create culinary, literary and fine art while studying across the curriculum. They say “the way to a human heart is through the stomach” and since the heart is a step closer to the mind, teachers at Scott used food to motivate learning.

English, art and computer technology teachers worked together to help students create a professionally bound full-color cookbook. Copies of Hungry Minds are available for online purchase for $11.43 at www.Lulu.com or for loan at Chatham County libraries. The 2008 issue was made possible by a grant from The Excellence Fund. Students have already begun working on the next issue.

This year they will be adding an organic garden and recycling program to the project. New partners are welcome to join in this venture.
