Thanks to the persuasiveness of high school junior and captain of the Robotics Team, Michael Hill; the Robotics Team at Sol C. Johnson High School can now add $1,000 to their program! The donation comes to the team from Arizona Chemical’s Savannah Plant.
To obtain the funds, Michael wrote a letter to the company expressing how investing in the Robotics team would help expose team members to opportunities in an industry that is growing faster than colleges can educate engineers to sustain it. He also shared with the company’s Plant Manager, Nick Merolli that the team has established itself as a contender in state competitions and that the team members are committed to education, innovation and giving back. Hill added, “The program helps students take an interest in different math and science courses i.e. physics, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry.”
“As our folks have heard about our decision to support the Sol C. Johnson Robotics Team, they’re excited and want to keep in touch with the kids and learn about their success,” said Merolli in a company press release. “I’m glad Michael wrote to us and that we were able to lend a hand to a group of kids who really are the future of our country’s industrial and technical future.”
Sol C. Johnson’s Robotics Team has had success with their robots in the past and expects, with the help of Arizona Chemical and other company contributions, to do so again this year. The team has won the Peachtree Regional Competition in Decatur, GA twice and last year, they made it to the semi-finals in both the Georgia and North Carolina state championship competitions.
Arizona Chemical, headquartered in Jacksonville, FL is the world’s largest producer of naturally derived specialty resins and pine-based chemicals for the adhesives, inks and coatings, lubricants, fuel additives, mining and oleochemicals markets.
