SCCPSS students entered 184 projects in the Georgia Student Media Festival, sponsored by the Georgia Association for Instructional Technology (GAIT), Georgia Library Association (GLA) and Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), which was held April 25, 2008 at Georgia Public Broadcasting in Atlanta.
Eighty-eight projects representing the efforts of 593 students from 23 schools, received a Superior rating (a score of 96-100), and 65 projects received a Merit rating (90-95). A total of 1091 students participated in the state festival. The projects rated Superior will advance to the International Student Media Festival, which will be held in Orlando, FL November 5-8, 2008.
The purpose of the Georgia Student Media Festival is to stimulate student interest and involvement in all types of media production. This Student Media Festival provides an opportunity for students to show their work to an interested audience, to have the work critiqued by a panel of expert judges, and to be stimulated by the work of other students.
K-12 festival activities progress through three successive levels: local, system, and state. Entries must be evaluated at each level and receive a superior rating in order to proceed to the next level. Those projects that receive superior rating at the state level will proceed to the International Media Festival competition.
