Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education Second District Vacancy

The Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education is seeking to fill the seat left open by Mr. Mickey Stephens. 

Under Georgia law, a Special Election will be held on November 4, 2008 to coincide with the General Election.  In that election, a candidate will be elected to fill the rest of the term which extends to December 31, 2010.

 

Candidates interested in filling the temporary appointment should submit a Statement of Interest (attached) to the School Board Office, Room 101, 208 Bull Street (31401) no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2008. 

 

The qualifications of a successful candidate include:

 

·         Must be twenty-one (21) years old;

·         Live in the Second District;

·         Not employed by or serving on the governing board body of a private education institution or employed by the Board of Education

·         Not employed by the Department of Education or serving as a member of the Georgia State Board of Education; and

·         Meet the general requirements for office as stipulated by Georgia law.

 

The person selected to fill the vacancy may or may not wish to run for the balance of the term in the November Special Election.  If the person elects to run, it will be their responsibility to qualify, take any and all steps to be elected and file all necessary reports.
