Parent Notification Letters Concerning Choice School Transfers

Click here for Microsoft Word version of this press release

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires public school districts to notify the parents of students attending a school that has been identified as Needs Improvement about the option to transfer. Under this legislation, students are eligible to transfer to another school in the district that is in good standing. School districts must provide for the transportation for all students from a Title I funded school and must give priority to low achieving students from low income families.

Letters for the following seven schools, identified as Needs Improvement by the State, have been mailed to parents explaining the transfer option and providing information about the procedures and deadlines for making a transfer request.

  • Bartlett Middle School
  • Beach High School
  • Groves High School
  • Hubert Middle School
  • Myers Middle School
  • Savannah High School
  • Spencer Elementary School

The deadline for completing a request for a Choice transfer is Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Parents who are approved for a transfer must register their child in the newly assigned school by Friday, September 19, 2008.

For more information about School Choice, please contact the Title I Office at 395-5635.
