SCCPSS’ Academic Affairs division is proud to announce that its 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant application for the 2008-2009 school year has been awarded by The Georgia Department of Education (GDOE) in the amount of $1,533,584 to continue eight existing CCLC centers and to establish five new programs.

The original 2004 grantees were awarded $1,183,584 in continuation funds for their fifth and final year to continue their program at the following sites: Bartow, East Broad, Haven and Pt. Wentworth Elementary Schools, DeRenne, Hubert and Mercer Middle Schools and Beach High School.

The money awarded from the new 2008 grant, $350,000, will establish 21st CCLC after-school programs for Pre-K students at East Broad, Haven and Thunderbolt Elementary as well as programs at Garrison Elementary (grades 3–5) and Savannah High (grades 9–12).

The grant applications were made in partnership with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia and the Chatham Savannah Youth Futures Authority (YFA). The goal of the grant is to improve schools by providing academic enrichment activities that will support student learning during non-school hours and provide family literacy and educational development activities.
