School Board Approves School Choice Options

The SCCPSS School Board has approved the following School Choice Options for the 2008-2009 school year due to AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) considerations.

School Choice Plan for 2008-2009

  • Elementary: Spencer students whose parents elect the school choice option will attend either East Broad or Garrison Elementary Schools.
  • Middle:  Students from Bartlett, Hubert and Myers Middle Schools whose parents elect the school choice option will attend Coastal. Southwest or Shuman Middle Schools.
  • High:  Students from Beach and Savannah High Schools whose parents elect the school choice option will attend either Windsor or Johnson High Schools using a modified program offering as explained below:  (Groves High School students will have the same options but will only be considered if space is available after the Beach and Savannah High students are placed as Groves is not a Title 1 school.)

Windsor Forest High:

  • All 9th grade students will attend the Windsor Forest High School main campus.
  • Students in Grades 10-12 will have the option of attending a new program that will be operated as a satellite location of Windsor Forest High School.  A virtual school program, under the supervision of Windsor Forest High, will be housed in the existing Corporate Academy facility on the Savannah Technical College campus.  Windsor Forest High School’s main campus will remain an option for students in Grades 10-12.
  • The district will provide CAT tickets, funded by Title 1, for choice transfer students from Beach and Savannah High. Transportation will not be provided for students from Groves High School as it is not a Title 1 school.
  • Only students in Grades 10-12 assigned to Windsor Forest High School will be authorized to attend Windsor’s Virtual High School program.  ( *** Please see note below explaining Windsor Forest's Virtual High School)  In addition to choice students, other students currently enrolled at Windsor Forest will be offered the opportunity to attend the virtual school as well.

Johnson High Annex at Savannah High School

  • School choice students who are enrolled in Johnson High School will attend school in the Savannah High School facility in a separate wing which will be designated the Johnson High Annex.
  • One assistant principal from Johnson High School will serve as the site administrator of the Annex.
Teaching and required support staff as needed from Johnson High School will be assigned to the Annex based on student enrollment and course schedules.

***  The Windsor Forest Virtual High School (WFVHS) is a non-traditional internet based public high school where students can complete their required high school courses solely through computerized learning.  Students will work from home and at the WFVHS site, where they will be assisted by qualified teachers.  Attendance in this non-traditional program is determined by course enrollment and support needed. The WFVHS will be housed on the campus of Savannah Technical College.
