The Savannah-Chatham County Public School Systems’ School Nutrition Program (SNP) will hold their system-wide in-service themed “Employee Wellness” on Monday, August 25, 2008.  This year’s in-service, in collaboration with UGA Extension Services, the African-American Resource Center and the American Cancer Society, will focus on women’s health.

“The program realizes that half of our employees do not have adequate health insurance,” said Altheria Maynard, SCCPSS School Nutrition Program Director. “This becomes a health issue for them and their families.  We want to ensure our employees are healthy and are aware of health issues that effect women, especially African American women.”

Presenters from the American Cancer Society, the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and the National Black Leadership Initiative will speak on a variety of topics ranging from cancer awareness to healthy eating habits.  There will be food demonstrations, door prizes and the Saint Joseph/Candler’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be outside of the center from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for any interested women that want to be checked for breast diseases.  Mobile unit staff will even file your insurance for you.

For more information click here or contact the School Food and Nutrition Office at 912-395-1171 or 5548. Please call 819-6800 to schedule an appointment for the mammography unit.
