Beach High School’s Future Educators of America (FEA) group is collecting Girl Scout cookies to ship to troops from Hunter Army Air Field currently serving in Iraq. Only the Trefoil (shortbread) cookies will be accepted because the other flavors may melt during shipment. A handmade card of thanks will be attached to each box.
Many students, teachers and staff at Beach have been affected by the war in Iraq. This is their way of giving back and showing the troops that they are appreciated. Brittany Graham, a member of FEA, says “I see many of my teachers whose husbands are now in Iraq and I can tell that they are sad because of the separation. Many of them talk to us about how they are feeling and that helps us and them get through the day.”
The cookies will be collected through March 31, 2008. Anyone who would like to donate can drop off boxes at the school located at 3001 Hopkins Street or contact Keasha Burgess, FEA Advisor, at 201-2334.
