On Thursday, February 21, 2008, the first-grade students at Jacob G. Smith Elementary School will host their fifteenth annual "Black History Program." The purpose of this program is to celebrate the accomplishments African-Americans have made to society.
This year's program will feature a fashion show with faculty, parents and students dressed in African attire. Musical selections will be presented by the first-grade students, as well as the Blue Notes Jazz Band from Savannah High. Students will recite biographical sketches focusing on inventors and famous abolitionists.
The guest speaker is Mayor Otis Johnson. The special guest performer is Roger Moss Jr., Artistic Director and Co-Founder of The Savannah Children’s Choir.
The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and will culminate with the annual "Soul Food Festival" to be held in the cafeteria.
