Calling all Atom Smashers! The Sol C. Johnson Grand Reunion Committee is asking current and former students, teachers, staff, families and friends of the school to attend a special Black History Month program. It will take place Friday, February 29th in the school’s auditorium at 10 a.m. The event recognizes those who have upheld and continue to uphold the SCJ Motto, “Not to Equal but Excel.”
The program will feature the unveiling of the portraits of former principals Alflorence Cheatham, the school’s first principal, and Arthur Dwight who embodied academic excellence and leadership. They followed in the tradition of Solomon Charles Johnson who strived for excellence as editor and publisher of The Savannah Tribune, a civil rights leader and an activist in Savannah’s African American community for more than 60 years.
