A Fourth National Merit Scholar Named from SCCPSS

Kenneth Wheeler Allen (Savannah, Ga.) — A fourth National Merit® Scholarship recipient has been named from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.  Kenneth Wheeler Allen, a 2008 Savannah Arts Academy graduate joins three public school students named earlier this year from the Savannah area.

Kenneth Allen received academic notoriety earlier in this year when he was named the Co-Star Student from Chatham County.

Allen’s National Merit® Scholarship is funded by Georgia Institute of Technology.

Earlier this year, Jenkins High School’s Elise R. Alexander and Jonathan R. Daye, and Savannah Arts Academy’s Margaret A. Hayes were named as National Merit® Scholarships recipients.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for academic recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.  High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.
