Earlier this year, 4,902 4th/5th grade Duke TIP Talent Search participants across the country took the EXPLORE test. The eighth-grade exam serves as an optional above-level test for students enrolled in the Talent Search program.

Alston E. Macgill of Jacob G. Smith was 1 of 29 fifth grade EXPLORE test-takers across the nation that earned a composite score in the 99th percentile.

This highly motivated student loves to read and has a great interest in studying all subjects.  She particularly enjoys the gifted program and accelerated reader program at Jacob G. Smith. This year, Alston won first place in the Science Fair at the school level.  Her art work has been chosen for public display representing Jacob G. Smith and she is currently the co-captain of the Safety patrols.

Duke TIP honors students scoring in the 99 percentile or above on the EXPLORE.  Alston received special recognition and a medallion for her outstanding achievements at a recognition ceremony held at Georgia Southern University.

The Duke TIP 4th/5th Grade Talent Search helps academically talented students become inspired to learn through exciting educational opportunities. Only those students who are currently enrolled in the Talent Search program are eligible to register for EXPLORE testing.
