Assistant principal Dr. Leroy Zimmerman of Jenkins High School has been named a 2008 Coca-Cola Educator of Distinction by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
Dr. Zimmerman is one of 250 educators across the country chosen to receive this honor. “Educator of Distinction” is an award that recognizes outstanding teachers and administrators dedicated to providing education with an enhanced purpose.
In addition to this impressive honor, Dr. Zimmerman will receive a commemorative crystal gift from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and a plaque inscribed with a personal dedication written by Morgan Gusby, a recent graduate of Jenkins High and a 2008 Coca-Cola Scholar, who nominated Dr. Zimmerman.
Each year, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation chooses 250 outstanding high school seniors to receive college scholarships valued at $20,000 or $10,000. Once named a Scholar, the students then designate the teacher, coach, principal or counselor that inspired and encouraged them most as their Educator of Distinction.
Including the 2008 Class of Coca-Cola Scholars, the Foundation has now awarded more than 4,000 Coca-Cola Scholars with a total of $35 million in scholarship awards.
This is the ninth year the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has presented the Educator of Distinction Award to outstanding educators.
