The Medtronic Foundation, a charitable affiliate of Medtronic, has awarded Saving Lives in Chatham County (SLICC) a $30,000 grant, the maximum permitted under the program, to team up with representatives from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System in an effort to teach 1,150 students CPR. They will present the check to the group on Friday, June 6, 2008 in front of SCCPSS’ Central Office at 208 Bull Street in a press conference starting at 9:00 a.m.
SLICC is expected to use the grant to train more than 1,000 public school system students using the American Heart Association’s “Family and Friends CPR – Anytime” kit. They hope that those students will in turn, take the kit home and train family and friends, thus yielding a total of more than 4,000.
SLICC is a non-profit organization committed to teaching CPR in the Savannah-Chatham County area. Their mission is to improve the survival rate from cardiac arrests by teaching more and more bystanders how to perform CPR. President of the organization, Bob Trenkamp will serve as Project Manager within SLICC and Dr. Michele Hartzell will serve as Project Manager within the Board of Education in this effort.
