Each year, individuals on behalf of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System participate in the American Diabetes Associations’ Kiss-A-Pig fundraiser, one of the association's unique fundraising campaigns held to "honor" the pig for aiding in discovering the effectiveness of insulin for people with diabetes. In this year’s fundraiser, Dr. Joe Buck, SCCPSS’ Kiss-A-Pig representative, came in second in the RePIGlican category raising approximately $112,000! Danny Creasy, from Hinesville, raised approximately $160,000 and earned the honor of kissing “LULU” the pig. Together the two teams raised over a quarter of a million dollars!
SCCPSS is the only organization that has participated in the American Diabetes Association’s Annual Kiss-A-Pig campaign since its inception 16 years ago. To date SCCPSS staff, children and their family and friends have raised in excess of $900,000 that goes toward supporting our local diabetes education and advocacy programs as well as national research for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association is the only organization actively seeking a cure for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Special events activities represent a significant segment of the American Diabetes Association's (ADA) overall fund-raising plan. These events serve to introduce the ADA mission and vision to communities throughout the country, while providing enhanced visibility to businesses and corporations that participate in events.
