Savannah Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair Winners Announced

More than 150 participants from 35 area public, private and home-schools participated in the Savannah Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SOREF) held last week in Armstrong Atlantic State University’s (AASU).  Several winning SCCPSS students took home awards and all first place recipients will go on to compete in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in Athens on April 2-5, 2008.  

Each student brought out their winning projects from their own school-level competitions to be judged in junior and senior divisions by community volunteers.  Sixth through twelfth graders were interviewed as judges reviewed projects ranging from Behavioral/Social Sciences to Zoology. The event capped off with an awards ceremony in which all of the students listed below received special awards, some of which will advance to the state competition:

Marcel Williams of Savannah Arts Academy received the grand prize award for the senior division and will compete in Atlanta in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in May.   Eric Lau of DeRenne Middle School also took home the grand prize award for the junior division.

The Savannah Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair provide a forum for teachers and academic to encourage students to investigate science and engineering problems and ways to solve them.  Through their projects, students learn organizational and logistical approaches to solve complex problems.
