Twenty-two Sol C. Johnson High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) members attended the 64th Annual DECA State Competition and Career Development Conference earlier this month at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA.
Shannon Withers, Courtney Gardner, Rasheen Washington, Scott Walden, Travis Hicks, and Lynsie Lefevre participated in individual competency based events. Melanie Miranda, Rachel Randell, Amnesti Crewe, Alicia Kelly, Kendall Scott, Sade Adoh, William Mays, and Jasmin Bush participated in various marketing 2 person team competency events. Chiquita Mikell, Nastassia Chambers and James Jackson participated in the DECA Quiz Bowl.
James Jackson won 3rd place in Quiz Bowl and will have the opportunity to participate on the Georgia DECA Quiz Bowl team at National Competition in April. Members Sierra Harvey, Kenneth Robinson, Quanekwa Edwards, Landon Brown, and Yakub Sanders participated as VIP event assistants. Bettina Polite Tate and Sharon B. Stallings served as the chapter advisors.
In addition to individual and team awards, State and National DECA implements a Chapter Awards Program that provide recognition at four levels; bronze, silver, gold and diamond. The recognition level is determined by the number and type of activities a chapter completes in each of the categories: membership development, civic consciousness, leadership development, vocational understanding, social intelligence and promoting public relations.
