On Thursday, May 8, 2008, Oglethorpe Charter School will be celebrating National Charter Schools Week, May 5-9. Governing Board members, Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education members, district staff and parent volunteers are invited to a lunch, class visit, and short program to highlight the importance of providing choice in public education. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the school’s theater.
In a proclamation sent by Governor Sonny Perdue, Oglethorpe Charter School is one of four Georgia schools listed as examples of providing a quality choice for students in the state, along with Fulton Science Academy in Alpharetta, Charter Conservatory for Liberal Arts & Technology in Statesboro, and DeKalb PATH Academy in Atlanta.
Oglethorpe Charter School was founded in 1999, and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next school year.
In 2004, Oglethorpe was recognized by the United States Department of Education’s Office of Innovation and Improvement as one of eight quality charter schools in the nation. In 2006, the voters of Savannah-Chatham County voted to pass E-SPLOST funding, which will allow the school to build a new facility sometime in the next two years.
