The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s Department for Exceptional Children will host its 7th Annual Celebration of Teachers awards ceremony at Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Conference Center on Thursday, May 22, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Celebration of Teachers is an annual event that recognizes and honors excellence in co-teaching. Co-teacher teams consist of a regular and a special education teacher working together in one classroom to plan lessons and teach a subject together to a class of special and regular education students. Co-teaching arrangements between special education teachers and general education teachers provide strategies for effective inclusion of students with special needs. Teachers honored in the event go through a vigorous recommendation and nomination process by fellow teachers, site administrators and students before being selected by a panel of special education program managers.
A total of 17 co-teaching teams that have exemplified preparation, co-planning, and communication skills that are critical to the success of maximum delivery of instruction to all students have been nominated to be honored at this year’s ceremony.
