The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is celebrating the accomplishments of our new teachers! On Friday, May 16, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., more than 400 novice teachers will have successfully completed THRIVE!, a comprehensive teacher support program held throughout the year by the district, and will have positively impacted thousands of students!
The celebration will be a time of reflection on the 2007 - 2008 school year. Freshman teachers will share thoughts regarding their growth throughout the school year and visual displays of student work will be presented gallery-style to showcase the implementation of effective teaching strategies. The new teacher cadre will also enjoy door prizes, giveaways, refreshments and music by the Windsor Forest High School Jazz Band.
Superintendent, Dr. Thomas Lockamy and School Board President, Dr. Joe Buck will be on hand to address the crowd. School Board Members, the 2007-2008 District Teacher of the Year and other district representatives will also be there to join in on the celebration and offer words of encouragement. In addition, a video of new teachers in action will be shown.
The celebration will take place at the Armstrong Center, 11935 Abercorn Street.
