Five SCCPSS’ Odyssey of the Mind Teams will travel to College Park, Maryland this weekend to compete at the 29th Odyssey of the Mind 2008 World Finals.

Two teams from Savannah Arts Academy, one team from DeRenne Middle School, one team from Marshpoint Elementary, and one team from Islands Elementary will join over 500 teams from around the world to compete for the title of “World Champs!” in 5 creative problems May 31-June 3, 2008.

The Odyssey of the Mind World competition emphasizes creativity and teamwork. It has grown into the largest international creative problem-solving competition. In addition, it makes learning fun while giving kids the chance to explore their imaginations and express their creativity.

Last year at the World Finals competition, the fourth grade team from Marshpoint Elementary School ranked 11th against 59 other teams.  Savannah Arts Academy’s team ranked 13th out of 42 other teams.  The 8th grade team from DeRenne Middle School ranked 15th against 49 other teams while their 6th grade team ranked 28th against 66 other teams.
