Health Plan Options- The State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) is established for the benefit of school districts and other governmental employers by the Georgia legislature. SHBP operates through the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH). SHBP and DCH determine the plan design, the monthly premiums, and the network providers. SCCPSS provides payroll deduction for your premium along with other administrative support. A Decision Guide is available for new employees. A chart of the monthly premiums is also available for your information.
Retirement Benefits - The retirement plans available to employees are established by the Georgia Legislature. The governing boards determine the plan design and employee contribution amounts. SCCPSS provides the payroll deductions for your contribution and other administrative support.

Teachers Retirement System of Georgia is the retirement plan that covers most employees. Members contribute 5.25% of their gross salary on a pre-tax basis to the plan. The District contributes 9.74% of pay. Benefits are earned after 10 years of credited service. Full retirement benefits are available after 30 years of credited service.
- Public School Employees Retirement System of Georgia is the plan that covers employees who are non-supervisory roles in Maintenance, Custodial, and Food Service functions. Members contribute $4.00 to the plan each month for 9 months each year. Benefits are earned after 10 years of service.
Basic Life Insurance- The District pays for a $10,000 term life insurance policy for each employee who works at least 20 hours per week. All you need to do is complete the Beneficiary Card
Supplemental Term Life Insurance - You can purchase additional life insurance in units of $10,000 up to $500,000 in coverage. If you become disabled , your insurance can be continued with no premium payment. AD&D is with Cigna.

Short and Long Term Disability
- Short term disability insurance pays a weekly benefit amount that you choose (40%, 50% or 60% of your current weekly pay) when you are unable to work due to illness or injury. Payments start after 13 days of disability up to 180 days. The monthly premium is based on the amount of benefit you choose.
- Long term disability insurance pays a monthly benefit of 60%of your regular pay (subject to coordination with other benefit payments) after 180 days of disability. SCCPSS pays the full cost of this benefit for each employee who works at least 20 hours per week.
Vision Care Insurance - NVA Vision Plan
The vision plan provides vision exams, lenses (or contacts), and frames at set prices when network providers are used.
Cafeteria Benefits
- SCCPSS operates a plan designed by the Internal Revenue Service Code Section 125 to allow many benefit deductions to be taken from your pay on a pre-tax basis. This means that you are not taxed on the health, dental and vision coverage deductions that come out of your paycheck. You can also set up reimbursement accounts with pre-taxed contributions to reimburse your dependent care expenses and unreimbursed medical expenses.
- Aflac, the organization that assist the District with the Cafeteria Plan, also offers supplemental coverage for cancer, intensive care and other medical problems. The local Aflac representative, Rhonda Walls, can be contacted by calling (912) 231-8826.

- A company sponsored benefit designed to help employees and their families address problems that can compromise personal satisfaction and occasionally, job performance. (EAP)
