About School Nutrition Program (SNP)

The Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education's School Nutrition Department prides itself as a leader among school districts within the state of Georgia, striving to be a step above the rest.

The department is headed by Altheria Y. Maynard, SNP Director.  Under her leadership are three Senior Coordinators, Onather Bonaparte, Kimberly Kinsaul and Lydia Martin. The Coordinators supervise the School Nutrition Managers at 48 school sites. Currently the program employs approximately 315 employees. The Administrative staff of fifteen within the program is housed at the Central Office, located at 208 Bull Street, Suite 308. You may reach us at the Central Office at (912) 395-5548.

The School Nutrition Program is not supported by the general fund of the district and is a revenue-generating cost center. We offer breakfast and lunch at all sites under the Federal Child Nutrition Guidelines. Parents may submit meal applications to qualify for free and reduced-priced lunches. The cost for breakfast is $.30 for reduced meals and $.80 for full priced meals. The cost for lunch is $.40 for reduced meals and $1.75 for full priced meals. We accept prepayments. Adult meals are available at the price of $1.50 for breakfast and $2.85 for lunch. If you are unable to provide your child money for a meal, we will not allow your child to go hungry. We will offer them a nutritious alternate meal for breakfast and lunch.

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications for school meals are processed at the Central Office. The application process is computerized, resulting in a prompt turn-around for a decision regarding your child's application status. Applications will be available in early August. Applications can be downloaded from our website.

The School Nutrition Program is a part of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program and it is designed to safeguard the health and well being of our nation’s children, utilizing USDA commodities, and to provide nutritionally adequate meals at affordable prices to all school children. Lunch provides one-third (1/3) of the recommended dietary intakes and breakfast provides one-fourth (1/4) of the recommended dietary intakes.

Menus are planned centrally.

We provide nutritious, affordable meals to our students. Our goal is to encourage our student customers to make healthy choices that significantly impact their health and physical development.

All of our School Nutrition Managers, Assistant Managers, Coordinators and Director are ServSafe Certified by the National Restaurant Association.
