SCCPSS is proud to name Shawndrea Foy, a senior at Beach High School, as the Superintendent’s Student of the Month for May.
Shawndrea was selected for her outstanding academic performance. She’s a high honor roll student, ranking 7 out of 201 seniors in her class. Shawndrea has excelled in honor courses and developed her leadership skills through the Army JROTC program.
During her academic career, Shawndrea has received the National Honor Society Award, the Perfect Attendance Award, the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit and the JROTC Certificate of Merit.
Active in several clubs and organizations, such as the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, the Mock Trial Team and the 21st Century Leaders of America Club, Shawndrea still finds time to dedicate hours to community service. She volunteers at Hodge Elementary School tutoring students up to four hours weekly. She also invests an additional three hours into the lives of senior citizens at Heritage Park Nursing Home.
When asked what has motivated her to achieve academic success, Shawndrea said: “…I have discovered how to focus academically and have fun at the same time. I realize that school is not only about books and homework, but enjoying the excitement that it brings as well.”
The daughter of Sharon Foy, Shawndrea plans to attend Albany State University to study pre-law with aspirations of becoming a defense attorney.
The Superintendent’s Student of the Month program recognizes individual students at the monthly board meetings who have excelled in the area of academics, leadership and community service. Shawndrea will receive a plaque award, a $100 savings bond from Wachovia and special recognition from Dr. Thomas Lockamy at the board meeting on Wednesday, May 2.
