SCCPSS is proud to name April Brown, a senior at Johnson High School, as the Superintendent’s Student of the Month.
Selected for her outstanding academic performance, April is an honor student enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. She has consistently shown improvement throughout her academic career by maintaining a 4.0 GPA while balancing several extra-curricular activities and a rigorous course load.
April’s dedication to education and school participation is evident in her involvement in after-school clubs and activities. She’s a Georgia Merit Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. She’s also a member of the Mock Trail team, Soccer, Basketball and Softball teams.
“April is an incredible student who has contributed greatly to our school and our IB Program. Her decision to enter the IB Program in the 10th grade was, no doubt, a difficult one given the increased workload. But once the decision was made, she has thrived academically and socially,” says Jason Buelterman, IB Coordinator.
When asked what motivates her to achieve academic success, April said "I have a strong desire to succeed academically as a means of not only securing admission to my college of choice but also so I can better prepare for success in my chosen career path."
After graduation April plans to attend either the Georgia Institute of Technology or the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in engineering or marketing.
The Superintendent’s Student of the Month program recognizes individual students at the monthly board meetings who have excelled in the area of academics, leadership and community service. April will receive a plaque award, $100 savings bond from Wachovia and special recognition from Dr. Thomas Lockamy at the board meeting on Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
