SCCPSS is proud to name Morgan Gusby, a senior at Jenkins High School, as the Superintendent’s Student of the Month.

Selected for his outstanding academic performance, Morgan is a high honor roll student with a 4.0 GPA. He’s ranked #2 in his senior class. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, Student Advisory Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Junior Class President and NJROTC Executive Officer.

Morgan has consistently shown progress throughout his academic career while balancing several extra-curricular activities, a rigorous course load and multiple community service projects. He’s currently a member of the Chatham County Youth Commission and volunteers his time in the community at the Ronald McDonald House, Greenbrier Children’s Home, Salvation Army and the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Morgan has received several awards and accolades including, being recently selected as a 2008 Gates Millennium Scholar.  He’s also 1 of 250 high school seniors nationwide selected to receive a $20,000 or $10,000 four-year scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. April 24-27, Morgan will participate in the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend to compete for the top scholarship.

The son of Kim Gusby, Morgan is undeniably an outstanding student and a great role model. After graduation Morgan plans to attend the University of Miami or New York State University to pursue a degree in film.  To date, Morgan has received $144,500 in scholarship awards.

When asked what motivates him to achieve academic success, Morgan said “….knowing that performing well in school will help me in the long run to achieve my goals and dreams.”

The Superintendent’s Student of the Month program recognizes individual students at the monthly board meetings who have excelled in the area of academics, leadership and community service. Morgan will receive a plaque award, $100 savings bond from Wachovia and special recognition from Dr. Thomas Lockamy at the board meeting on Wednesday, April 2.
