The Board of Public Education, an elected body, is the policy-making branch of the school district's administration.

The Board President is elected county-wide for a four year term. Eight board members, representing geographic districts coinciding with those of the Chatham County Commission, are also elected to four-year terms.

The Board appoints the Superintendent of Schools, who is charged with implementing board policy and providing guiding stewardship for day-to-day administration of the school district.

All 2008 Board Meetings will be held at the Whitney Administrative Complex (2 Laura Street) on the following dates:

Executive Session 11:00 PM
Informal Session 1:00 PM
Regular Meeting 3:00 PM

Executive Sessions are closed to the public for the purpose of discussing personnel and legal matters or the acquisition of real estate. *Times may be changed for these meetings so it would be best to check with the Communications Department prior to the meeting. Informal Sessions are not held sometimes and/or there may be a time change for them. It is best to check with the Communications Department (395-5538) or the Board Office (395-5534).
