Biography: Gregory V. Sapp is a native of Savannah and long time resident of Wilmington Island. Mr. Sapp is an attorney and is the principal in The Sapp Law Group. Mr. Sapp’s legal practice emphasis is in civil litigation and business law.
Mr. Sapp was elected as the Savannah Chatham County School Board Representative for the Fourth (4th) District in November of 2004 and took office in January of 2005. In his first year the board, Mr. Sapp was asked to lead the Policy Review Committee, which reviewed and revised the policy and governance structure of the school board. This restructuring allowed the school board to qualify for selection as a Georgia School Boards Association “Board of Distinction.” At that time, Only 30 of 180 school boards in the state had attained this distinction, which was awarded to the Savannah-Chatham County School Board in December of 2005. In January of 2006 his fellow board members elected Mr. Sapp Vice-president of the School Board and he served two terms in that capacity. Mr. Sapp was reelected without opposition in 2008. He currently serves on the Superintendent’s Community Engagement Task Force, is Chairman of the Capital Improvement Committee, and recently led the board effort to completely revise the student discipline appeal and hearing procedure.
Mr. Sapp previously served as President of the Governing Board at Oglethorpe Charter School in Savannah, which, during his tenure, was recognized by the United States Department of Education as one of the top achieving charter schools in the country. He has been involved in many other education related efforts including being a member of the Parents Network for Better Education Advisory Committee of the Center for Education Reform, a member of the Chatham County Truancy Protocol Committee, and a member of the Council of Urban Boards of Education.
Mr. Sapp is active in the community including being a member of the Savannah Sunrise Rotary Club (serving on the Board), The Savannah Philharmonic Board of Directors, the United We Stand anti-crime task force, Leadership Savannah, and an active member at Southside Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon.
Mr. Sapp is very happily married to his college sweetheart who is a local public school music teacher. He has a daughter in college and a son who is in high school. Both of Mr. Sapp’s children are products of the Chatham County public schools.
