Services provided to students in the Counseling and Career Center encompass three primary areas: academic, personal/social, and college/career. Students receive services through classroom guidance, small group, and individual counseling. The Guidance program adheres to the missions of both the ASCA Model (American School Counselor Association) and the National Early College Initiative. Efforts are made to consistently expose students to the exploration of post-secondary options as well as develop the academic and leadership skills necessary to achieve success with those options.
In addition to counseling services the Counseling and Career Center provides both students and their families with a resource center complete with computer access and literature on a variety of Colleges and Universities. Materials to assist in the college search, financial planning and aid, and other relevant topics can be enjoyed during a visit to the center, or checked out when necessary. Visits from college representatives and other community members take place here in the center as well.
Students can self-refer for an appointment with their counselor by completing and submitting a Counselor Request sheet. These sheets can be found in each of the academic classrooms and the Student Center. Parents and teachers can also refer a student by completing a slip, email, or phone. Parent conferences that relate to academic advisement, college planning, or a student’s wellbeing can be scheduled individually with Mrs. Weisel or Ms. Maroun. In order to schedule an academic conference including a student’s teachers please contact the main office.
Presentations addressing college planning, financial aid and other pertinent topics will be scheduled throughout the school year to meet the needs of the students and their families. Bi-monthly Breakfast with Guidance sessions will also take place. Please check the website regularly for updated postings and upcoming events, as well as a schedule for visits from college representatives. Please contact the Counseling and Career Center with any questions or concerns.
