Scholarship Information

Seniors need to pay particular attention to scholarship deadlines.  Be sure to check the websites of the schools you are applying to as institutional scholarships are an excellent source of funding!

The following is an updated list of scholarship opportunities.  As the school year progresses, the list will be updated regularly to include additional local and regional awards.  New postings will be placed at the top of the list.  As with college applications, students needing transcripts and letters of recommendation from the Counseling Office must give a minimum of two weeks notice in order to ensure a timely turnaround process.  Additional financial resources can be found at the bottom of the list.

 

 

USDA/1890 Scholarship Program – Full tuition @ 18 of the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Universities. Must study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or other related disciplines and have 3.0 GPA with 1500 SAT (M, CR, W) or 21 on ACT.

National Co-op Scholarship Program – 170 $6,000 renewable awards.  GPA of 3.5 (90+), must attend one of the 10 participating colleges.

ACS (American Chemical Society) Scholars Program – up to $5,000 renewable.  ACS awards scholarships to underrepresented minority students who want to go into chemistry or chemistry related fields.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund – Various amounts. Numerous scholarships with various requirements.  Check back regularly!

UNCF Scholarships – Search for hundreds of scholarships and grant programs administered by the United Negro Scholarship Fund as well as scholarships offered through other organizations.  If you are applying to an HBCU, this is a must!

AFA Teen’s For Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship - A $5,000 scholarship for a deserving college-bound student.

100 Black Men of America, Inc. Future Leader Scholarship – Various amounts from $1,000-$3,000. GPA 2.5 or higher, completed 50 hours of active community service, leadership involvement, essay, must be college-bound.

KFC Colonel’s Scholarship Program – For outstanding seniors with financial needs and entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for up to $20,000. GPA minimum of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within GA, pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U.S. citizen, and demonstrate financial need.

Best Buy Scholarships – One-thousand (1,000) $1,500 scholarships available! For students in grades 9-12 with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community service or work experience.

GOT MILK? Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year – SAMMY 2010! Prize consists of a $7,500 scholarship and a trip to the Awards Weekend. Applications will only be accepted online.

The GAR College Scholarships – $50,000 For students who have shown high academic achievement, have financial need, & a parent/guardian working in the financial services industry (banks, etc).

Judge William F. Cooper Scholarship – Various amounts. FOR FEMALES ONLY! Must be a Georgia Resident (Chatham County residents given preference), demonstrated financial need; for study in any field except law, theology or medicine. Applicants must apply online. Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship – Recognizing more than 2000 students ages 6-18who are outstanding young volunteers with prizes ranging from $50 gift cards to $5,000 scholarships. Nominees must describe in detail and document efforts that are above and beyond what is normally expected. Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months.

Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship - $1,500 Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, 2 page essay                    and income verification.

Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” Scholarship Program - $5,000 Awarded to a high school senior who “understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a scholarship”.

Gulfstream Goldie Glenn Scholarship – $2,000 per academic year w/ maximum value of $8,000.  Eligible to all high school seniors who are sons or daughters (natural, legal, adopted, and stepchildren or wards who are full dependents ) of full-time, retired or deceased Gulfstream employees and who will enter an accredited institution of higher education in the US or approved institution in Mexico no later than the start of the next academic year. 5 scholarships will be award based on merit; another 5 have additional consideration—financial need.  Deadline: March 1st   Gulfstream employees may access scholarship application and checklist via the Gulfstream Intranet. 

 

NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing - $500 and a laptop, sponsored by Bank of America.  Recognizes young women at the high school level for their computing-related achievements and interests.

One of the single best sources of scholarship money is the college or university you are applying to.  Many schools have scholarship deadlines much earlier than their regular decision admission date.  Please pay close attention to the financial aid and scholarship sections of your schools’ websites!
