Welcome Message from Dr. Gertrude Robinson

As the newly appointed Interim Administrator for Early College I would like to inform you of my commitment to continue the traditions that have been established.  As we continue to grow and expand our programs we will hold on to our belief that a small learning environment provides our students with the personalized and accelerated learning they need to ensure a smoother transition to post-secondary institutions.

The success of Early College’s unique small school dynamic is already visible through our students’ exceptional performance on state testing.   During the inaugural 2007-2008 school year Early College students were able to exceed the District in the percentage of students passing the Georgia High School Graduation Test in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  They exceed the State scores in the areas of English, Math, and Science. The students’ performance on their End of Course Testing was equally as impressive.

Our students applied the same tenacity to their participation in summer activities.  Week long retreats relating to their pathways of Criminal Justice and Historic Preservation helped them bond as a cohort and connect their classroom learning with hands on experience.  I was excited to travel with four outstanding students to Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville for the first Early College Leadership Conference.  The lessons from these experiences will continue to find their way into the classroom all year long.

Early College continues to grow in order to maintain our commitment to small class size and a personalized experience for our students.  Our current enrollment sits at 139 students and we have added six new teachers and an additional counselor to meet these students’ needs.  We are proud to have thirteen seniors (72%) enrolled at Savannah State University for Fall 2008.

I sincerely appreciate your interest and support as we continue to embark on this innovative journey.  I encourage you to check back often for updates to our site.
