Resource Kits
The following resource kits are available for FREE to check out and use with your group (we do require a returnable security deposit).  Please call (912) 395-1500 to reserve any of these kits.

Our Shared Forests Science Night Kits

Twenty-two simple, research-based activities for elementary schools are contained in this "science night in a box." Developed by the State Botanical Garden in cooperation with Maquipucuna Foundation in Ecuador and Georgia PTA.  Activities focus on the migratory birds that "share the forests" between Ecuador and Georgia, address state education standards, encourage critical thinking skills and foster an understanding of the people, plants and animals in their communities.

 

“STARLAB” Portable Planetarium Loan Program

After completing a 4 hour workshop teachers and community groups can check out our “STARLAB” portable planetarium for 2 days (4 days if more than 2 teachers from the same school attend). The “STARLAB” system has several cylinders for projecting different images onto the dome. Age appropriate lesson plans are provided. Teachers can design their own lessons to meet the needs of their students.

AUDUBON Birding in a Box

Activities for all age groups are contained in this cooler with wheels. Activities focus on beginning birding regardless of age. The kit includes: a file folder full of activities to copy, bird eggs, bird books, feathers, bird software and bird posters. Also included are 15 beginning field guides, 1 adult field guide, 15 pair of binoculars (child size) and one adult size pair. Teachers and community groups may check out this activity box for up to one week.

 

Geology in a Box

After completing a 2 hour workshop teachers and community groups may check out our geology box for 2 days (4 days if more than 2 teachers from the same school attend). This geology program focuses on 3rd grade GPS objectives. Students can test the hardness, streaking, cleavage/facets, and magnetism of rocks and minerals commonly found in Georgia. Students can also search for fossils in a sample of phosphate mine tailings. Kit includes rock and mineral samples, streak plates, hardness scale, magnets, basic geology books, posters and activity sheets.
