What Programs are available this season?

Upcoming Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Wonderful Wildlife

Come to Oatland for a wildlife safari!  Campers will learn through stories, crafts, and observations that wildlife can include the smallest animals and some of the largest, and that wildlife exists everywhere around us.

Home Sweet Home

Campers explore Oatland's many habitats where fuzzy animals and creepy crawlies live.  They will learn about a different habitat each day and about the animals that live there.

Fun on the Farm

From the sheep's wool to the cow's milk, we will investigate Oatland's barnyard bunch.  Learn how chickens and owls are alike and how goats are similar to bears. We will learn all the fascinating facts about farm animals and why they are important to people.

Sensational Science

Come learn about the life, earth, chemical and physical sciences in this fun filled week.  Using experiments, crafts and explorations, campers will experience just how sensational science can be.

Let’s Be Sense-able

Join us for a week of outdoor exploration and sensory discovery using your five senses.  Using stories, crafts and lots of outdoor, hands-on fun, you will learn that animals have senses, too.

Upcoming 2nd - 8th Graders

Drama at Oatland

Two full weeks of drama await those who love to perform! Learn the basics of acting and stage performance with an enthusiastic, local actress with lots of experience to share.  Let Oatland’s natural environment reveal your creative side, then end your two weeks with a live performance to demonstrate your new skills!  (2 consecutive weeks of attendance required.)

Upcoming 2nd and 3rd Graders

Little Critters

Learn about the different invertebrate groups including insects, spiders and worms.  Turn logs in our forest and look closely into the tidal creek.  Let's see what you can find.  A week of discovery waits for you in this wonderful small world!

Wild About Wildlife

Students will learn about Georgia's native wildlife by observing them up close and behind the scenes.  The alligator, red fox, bobcats and eagles will become your friends at Oatland!

Slithery and Scaly

Join us for a week of reptilian fun as we learn about these wonderful creatures.  Research reptiles and amphibians as you become a herpetologist for the week!

Hooray for Habitats

Explore the many places that living things call home.  Find out why different places are home to different plants and animals. The forest, the marsh, a small rock and a rotting log provide the perfect habitat for many Oatland creatures.

Upcoming 4th – 6th Graders

Wetland Investigations

Five days of hands-on, feet wet fun!  We’ll look at the plants and animals that call the beach, ponds, rivers, and marshes home.  We’ll get in the sand, mud, and muck to find out what lives there and why.

Vanishing Species

Why are so many plant and animal species disappearing? Florida panthers, bald eagles and timber wolves each have their own stories to tell.   Investigate the circumstances which cause some species to become endangered and how you can help these wonderful creatures recover.

Scientist for a Day

Have you ever dreamed of being a marine biologist or astronomer?  Spend a week with us and become a different type of scientist each day.  From lizards to ladybugs and planets to pelicans, you will discover the amazing world of science and what this field has to offer.

Nature Creations

Let Oatland’s natural world awaken your creative talent!  A full week of drawing, painting, building, and making is inspired by the native plants and animals of our low country environment.

The Mad Scientist!

Are crickets attracted to light?  Why do we have tides?  Do ant lions like dry or wet sand?  What is an ant lion?  Hands on experiments and up-close observations explain some of nature’s most fascinating features during this week of science madness!

Upcoming 7th and 8th Graders

Trails and Treasures

Join us for a 21st century treasure hunt! You will begin your week with map and compass skills and proceed to learning the new sport of “Geocacheing”, including learning how to use a GPS (Geographic Positioning System).  Participants will have a one-day field trip to hunt for “caches” that are hidden in Chatham County, and then they will design their own cache and play Geocacheing on the Oatland trail.  As a group, we will also create, hide, and publish a cache on the Geocacheing web site.

Animal Instincts

What does it take to rescue and care for our native wildlife species?  When does a wild animal really need to be rescued?  Once rescued, can it be released back in to the wild or will it remain in captivity?  Captive wild animals depend on their human keepers to provide them with everything they need.  Not only do they need a healthy diet, they need stimulation for mental health as well.  Join us this week to discover the joys of making a difference in the lives of our wild and captive native species.
