Next Up - Main Building Renovation (target completion -  2010)

As part of ESPLOST, Oatland Island Wildlife Center's main building will be undergoing a $5 million renovation  starting on June 15th  2009.  The building update will...

  • triple the usuable guest space of the building
  • feature 7 total classroom/conference room spaces.
  • provide a new display area for the Center's program animal collection.
  • include a new veterinary clinic with public viewing windows and featuring an x-ray room, a sugery suite and a pharmacy.
  • invite guests into a new "open space" lobby that will allow for easier traffic flow.
  • have brand new restroom facilities.
  • be fully accesible.
  • provide a unique space for conferences, events, programs, and presentations of all kinds.

Long Range Plan Progress Timeline 

2007

  • Change name of Center from Oatland Island Education Center to Oatland Island Wildlife Centercomplete
  • New Alligator Wetlands Exhibit – complete
  • New Picnic Pavilions - complete

2008

  • Animal Health and Quaratine Center opens - complete
  • New Jr. League of Savannah's “Wolf Wilderness” exhibit featuring gray wolves, armadillos, bats and other animals. complete

2009

  • New Pollination Station garden opens - complete
  • New Cougar viewing area - complete

2010

  • Main Building renovation and upgrades complete.
  • New Black Bear Woods exhibit.
  • Georgia Farm upgrades and enhancements completed.

2011

  • Seek accreditation from AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums)
  • Boiler Room café and terrace.
