Animal Health Center

In January, Oatland Island Wildlife Center broke ground on its new state of the art animal health center.  This off-exhibit facility will allow Oatland Island Animal Care staff to separate new arriving collection animals during their necessary quarantine period.  The center will also allow animals to be removed from their exhibits in order to be treated for injury or sickness.  The Animal Health Center will help continue to upgrade the animal care program at Oatland Island and is a necessary component for us to continue to seek accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Check out these photos of the center under construction!

The new 900 square foot center utilizes several elements of "Green Design" including an on demand hot water heater, natural lighting and construction using locally produced materials.

Four "isolation" rooms allow sick or injured collection animals to be isolated during their recovery period.  The areas also allow us to quarantine incoming animals before introducing them to their exhibits.
