ALLIGATOR WETLANDS
Oatland Island Wildlife Center’s Alligator Wetlands is home to several juvenile American alligators, white ibis, black-crowned night herons and a pair of sandhill cranes. At the heart of the exhibit is a 10,000 square foot aviary featuring an elevated walkway where guests can get bird’s eye views of the alligators below. |
Interpretive signs and displays (such as a surprising alligator nest mound!) tell the story of life in the marsh as well as how alligators are perfectly designed for the water. A second large exhibit area features a pair of Florida sandhill cranes. The natural features of the exhibit allow them to fish in tidal ponds and probe for crabs in the mud so they are almost always active, even in during the hottest part of the day. |
