Animal Health Center
In May, Oatland Island Wildlife Center opened its new state of the art animal health center. This off-exhibit facility allows Oatland Island Animal Care staff to separate new arriving collection animals during their necessary quarantine period. The center also allows animals to be removed from their exhibits in order to be treated for injury or sickness. The Animal Health Center helps us to continue to upgrade the animal care program at Oatland Island and is a necessary component for us to continue to seek accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The new 900 square foot center utilizes several elements of "Green Design" including an on demand hot water heater, natural lighting and construction using locally produced materials. |

Four "isolation" rooms allow sick or injured collection animals to be isolated during their recovery period. The areas also allow us to quarantine incoming animals before introducing them to their exhibits. |
