Frequently Asked Questions

From June 15th 2009 - May 31st  2010, the Center's main building will undergo extensive construction.  Please note that temporary facilities will be available for restrooms, gift shop items and concessions

What types of guest facilities are available?

Food
We offer a variety of snacks including chips, cookies, bottled water, juice, soda and ice cream.  There are also covered picnic pavilions and we welcome you to bring a picnic lunch.

Restrooms
Restrooms are located next to the Picnic Pavilions and in the Georgia Farm exhibit.

Gifts
Shop on the wild side at our gift shop located in the temporary guest welcome center located across from the picnic pavlions.  A variety of wildlife-themed items such as shirts, mugs and other cool gifts are featured.  Inventory changes regularly so check back often!

When is the best time to visit?
Many of our animals live in spacious natural exhibits and might be active during any seasons or time of day.  Try to get to the center right at opening (10:00 – 11:00 am) or on an overcast day to see the animals at their most active!  The summer months are hot and humid and animals will seek shade to rest through much of the day.  Try coming in the cooler months of October – March.

How long does a typical visit last?
The average guest spends about 2-hours at Oatland Island.  Many guests see only half the Center in one trip while others spend a great deal of time observing the animals at each exhibit.

Should we bring any special items with us?
Check the weather forecast ahead of time and dress appropriately.  Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen and bug spray.  Don’t forget a camera!
