Work-Based Learning

Recognizing that the "community can be a classroom", educational institutions have extended their curricula beyond the four walls of the school. Work-based learning programs are a vital component of students’ academic and career development. Increased acceptance of work-based learning programs results from changes in the United States and world economies, the American educational system, and an increased career development focus. Preparing students for work integrates academic and occupational curriculum for a strong connection between school and work. Thus, work-based learning provides students with opportunities to receive the academic and occupational preparation that equips them with the necessary skills for obtaining employment and/or entering postsecondary education.

Woodville-Tompkins and all Savannah/Chatham County High Schools offer various workbased learning programs including job shadowing, afternoon work realease and full apprenticeship programs. More information can be obtained from your high school counselor or the Career and Technical Education office.
