Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools proudly announce the 2007 District Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Lolisa Boleman did not begin her professional life as a teacher. As a 1988 graduate of Savannah State University, her undergraduate degree is in Accounting. She received her Masters Degree in Middle Grades Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2004. Only by teaching has Ms. Boleman been able to find the best way to give back to the community. Being voted as Southwest Middle School’s student pick for Best Teacher during Cumulus Broadcasting’s Teachers’ Ball solidified how special Ms. Boleman’s relationship to her students influences her teaching style.
Ms. Boleman writes in her essay, “Being some child’s best hope is an enormous responsibility to me because I never want to disappoint a child. As an adult entrusted with children, I make the choice to show them love and respect, let them have fun while learning, and let them see me as a real person.”
Ms. Boleman is joined by semi-finalists Mr. Steve Schetski, Savannah Arts Academy and Ms. Marilee Laufenberg, Windsor Forest Elementary to round out the top three candidates.
Savannah-Chatham County Public School Teacher of the Year, an educational ambassador for the school district, acts as a representative for all public school teachers and as an advocate for the school systems, its students, and its teachers.
